Our Story

We’re the Shaws – Neal, Carrie, Colleen, and Walker. We retired from corporate life a few years ago, moving full-time to our North Texas ranch. We were raised in small town Texas  (on different sides of the state), and we love rustic, rural, ranch life. We’ve worked cows, gathered eggs, plowed fields, picked wild berries, and done pretty much everything else that rural Texans do.

Our Texas roots date back to the late 1700s / early 1800s, when Texas was a province of Spain. Neal is a direct descendant of early Spanish/Mexican settlers in Texas, and parts of our family have lived in Texas under the Spanish flag, the Mexican flag, the Republic of Texas flag, and now the United States flag. We’ve lived in East Texas, West Texas, South Texas, Central Texas, and North Texas.

We started Texas Rustic Mercantile because it’s not easy to find high-quality, authentic rustic goods. We spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to find items for our ranch when we moved out here. We don’t like mass-produced junk. So we decided to sell our own, premium, curated goods. We’re starting small, and we don’t necessarily want to get big. But what we do sell will be the highest quality, and the customer experience will be the best around.

Here’s a little background about the Texas Rustic Mercantile brand and what it means to us.

OUR VALUES

  • Shop small – When possible, we source our products from small vendors. We hope you’ll do the same. If you don’t buy from us, buy from another small business.

  • American-made when possible – We try really, really hard to keep all our products made in the USA. Sometimes it’s just not possible, so it’s not 100% guaranteed. But we do our best.

  • Customer service by people, not AI – There is a place for AI. But it’s not here. If you communicate with us, you’re communicating with a member of our family.

  • Neighbors helping neighbors – We donate a percentage of every LE canvas sale to a local charity. This is actually one of the reasons we started Texas Rustic Mercantile. Community responsibility is a priority for us.

  • Finally, and it really covers everything else … the Golden Rule. “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” We buy things too. We treat our customers like we want to be treated when we’re on the other end.

If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We love hearing from customers!

Best wishes,

The Shaw Family
